From Jewell Record December 19, 1895 (page 5)

Death of Mrs. F. W. Headley.

"Then fell upon the house a sudden gloom--
A shadow o'er those features fair but thin--
And from that hushed and darkened room,
Two angels issued where but one went in."

In the still hours of Friday morning, Dec. 13, 1895--surrounded by her loved ones and sustained by an infinite trust in the Creator--the spirit of Mrs. F. W. Headley took flight to the world beyond the skies. After many long, weary months of suffering--when skilled physicians and the tender care of those near and dear had failed to restore shattered health or banish the dread disease--rest, sweet and peaceful, came at last. The weary eyes were closed in eternal sleep by loving hands, and the tired form laid to rest. Death--the great equalizer of mankind--is sad at best. The rich and the poor, the proud and humble, the strong and the weak, are all finally gathered together in one mighty sepulcher. But the close of a pure, faithful, Christian life is but a glad release from earthly toils and troubles. And but for the tears of loved ones, and the somber habiliments of mourning, one could easily have imagined the closing scenes in the earthly life of the faithful wife, devoted daughter and loving sister to have been an occasion fraught with mirth and joy.

The funeral was held from the M. E. church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon--Rev. Chas. Artman preaching a touching and consoling sermon from the text: "For now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then shall I know as I am known." The church was packed with friends who had come to pay a last tribute to the dead and extend sympathy to the bereaved husband and relatives. And so the sad, solemn scene of "dust to dust" was enacted over again, and all that is mortal of Mrs. F. W. Headley now rests in calm repose in Evergreen cemetery to await the joyous reunion beyond this vale of tears. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the loving husband, father, mother, sisters and brother in the hour of their sore bereavement.

OBITUARY.

Maggie Montgomery was born Sept. 28, 1858, at Cimcoe, Canada, and was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Montgomery, who reside five miles southwest of this city. She came to the United States with her parents in 1864, and to Hamilton county in 1871. On Nov. 4, 1885, she was married to F. W. Headley. One child, a son, who died in infancy, was born to them about several years ago. During her long and tedious illness, extending over a period of six months, she has been a constant but patient sufferer--the immediate cause of death being heart failure, superinduced by rheumatism. For thirteen years she has been a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church. A husband, father and mother; three brothers and two sisters, together with a wide circle of friends, are left to mourn her untimely death.
