STANHOPE SIFTINGS
ISAAC O. OPPEDAL
On Tuesday morning, Feb. 3, at 4:30 a.m., Isaac O. Oppedal passed away at the Mercy hospital in Mason City. He had been in ill health for several years and had undergone several major operations during the last years. About ten weeks ago he underwent two major operations in Iowa City and in this weakened condition he contracted pneumonia. There in a fight for his life he recovered only enough to be returned home. At times he showed favorable improvement, but on Friday, Jan. 30, he was rushed to the hospital in Mason City, where he grew steadily weaker until death.
Isaac O. Oppedal was born to Ole and Ingeborg Oppedal on January 12, 1876, in Clear Lake township in Hamilton county. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith Feb. 11, 1876, and was reared in this faith.
His boyhood days were spent in this community, and on June 12, 1915, he was united in marriage to Barbara Regina Iverson. To this union three children were born: Donald, Margaret and Einar, all living near home at the time of his death.
On December 10, 1931, he was left with his three children to mourn the departure of his beloved wife. Altho his health had given him much suffering these latter years, he remained patient in suffering and a staunch believer in his Lord until the end.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Bohn funeral home in Garner, at 12:30, and in the Bethany Ev. Lutheran church near Story City, at 2:30. Interment was made in the Clear Lake cemetery.
Acting pallbearers were his six brothers-in-law: Edward, John, Iver and Ilert Iverson, Rasmus Iverson and Lawrence Brudos.
Remaining to mourn his passing are his three children: Donald and Margaret of Garner, and Einear of Bricelyn, Minn.; also three brothers, Ole of Jewell, John of Stratford and Richard of Chicago, besides hosts of other relatives and friends.
