A FATAL ACCIDENT

Frank Cochran meets his Death in a sad and Singular manner.

On Thursday last Frank Cochran, living four miles north of Jewell, with his brother W. C. Cochran, met his death in a sad and peculiar way. They were engaged in butchering hogs, he stuck the hog, and while standing over it the hog fell throwing him the ground in such a manner as to fall on the knife which he still held in his hand, and running the blade full length into his side just below the nipple. Dr. McCanon was summoned immediately but arrived too late, Mr. Cochran dying in about an hour after the accident, the bleeding being internal it was impossible to render aid. Death came almost before he knew it, dying without a struggle. Frank Cochran was a young man highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him, and his sad and untimely death is mourned by a large circle of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Brown, of Jewell, at the School house, and from there the remains were borne to the Evergreen cemetery south of town, where they were laid to rest in the presence of a large number of friends and acquaintances.

Frank Cochran was born in Lycoming county, Penn., and was, therefore, at the time of his death 26 years, 11 months and 13 days old, being the youngest of nine sons of whom but three survive him. His father died when but a small child, since that time he has lived with his brother, with the exception of a couple of years when his aged mother became sick and he took care of her until her death which occurred in 1872, he then returned to his brother's with whom he made his home until the day of his death. They moved to Marshall county, Iowa, in 1876, and from there to Hamilton county in 1880. His death came so sudden that we can almost cry of old: "This affliction is greater than we can bear."

CARD OF THANKS.
We take this opportunity of expressing our thanks to the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in this sad affliction, there being many ready and willing hands to assist, and we assure them that their kindness will long be remembered.

WM. COCHRAN.
