Elmer (Andy) Clarence Anderson, 80, of Stuart passed away October 21, 2012 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 25, at the First Congregational Church in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be held in South Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stuart Rescue Unit and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Elmer Clarence Anderson was born on July 28, 1932, in Barnes County, North Dakota, to Clarence Anderson and Amelia (Schlak) Anderson. He grew up and graduated from 8th grade from Valley City, North Dakota. Elmer worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad until he enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korea War from 1950-1952. Upon being honorably discharged he began working for AT&T.
Elmer was united in marriage to Shirley (Vogel) on May 27, 1954. While working for AT&T they traveled to 28 different states before settling in Stuart, in 1964, where they raised two kids Myron and Calvin. Elmer was a member of the First Congregational Church of Stuart and the Stuart American Legion. He enjoyed 25+ years of retirement traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and Florida. Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and camping.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters: Adiline, Alice, Eveleyn and brother Casper. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years Shirley; sons: Myron of Stuart and Calvin (Deb) of Redfield; grandchildren: Sara Anderson, Lucas Anderson, and Jacob Anderson; brother: Leonard (Verna) of Valley City, ND and many nieces and nephews.
