F. W. Alexander was born in Cohoes, New York, November 5, 1864. Moved with his parents to Chicago in 1877 and to Grundy county, Iowa, in February of 1882, where he resided on a farm for three years after which he was engaged as clerk for F. H. Frazey, of Conrad in the hardware business. He acted in that capacity until the spring of 1893 when he was taken into partnership by Mr. Frazey, then buying out the furniture and undertaking business of F. M. Wilson & Co. Was married to Miss M. L. Canon of Conrad, in September, 1889. One child blesses his home.

In March, 1896, he sold his interest and engaged in the fancy grocery and undertaking business, using two separate buildings.

F. W. Alexander has been prominent in county politics, having served as chairman of the Democratic Township Central committee, and other positions in the party. Mr. Alexander has served three consecutive terms as recorder of the town of Conrad, and as a member of the town council. Has passed through all the chairs of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Conrad and held important offices in the Modern Woodmen of America. The subject of our sketch is one of the most highly respected young men of our county, having the full confidence of his fellow townsmen of all parties. He has the reputation of being an up-to-date funeral director and embalmer, and enjoys a prosperous business in that line. In May, 1893, he joined the Funeral Directors association of Iowa, and is now secretary and treasurer of that organization. Mr. Alexander has gained his success entirely by his own efforts, having passed through an average poor boy's life and receiving the usual amount of experiences that fall to the lot of the poor boy.
