PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BURNED

Fonda, Jan 3. – The Presbyterian Church of Churdan, Iowa, together with all its furniture, was consumed by fire last evening. The janitor built the fire in the two stoves in the cellar for the service intended to be held that evening, and went to his supper. Before his return to the building the church was discovered to be on fire by the pastor, Rev. Wm. Gardner, who gave the alarm, too late to save anything, his won household goods in the parsonage nearby being badly soiled by the efforts to save the building. This church was, built in 1884 at a cost of $1,800 and the only insurance on it was held by the board of church erection on its grant of $500 at the time it was built.
