Sunday April 21, Nellie and Lydia Chambers, 17 and 19 respectively, disappeared from their homes near Bartlett. The Missouri River had given up its dead, but the circumstances leading to their mysterious disappearance and untimely death were still unsolved. At the time of their disappearance the two girls were tracked to within 20 years of the river bank and there a single track continued for about 200 feet directly to the river and then disappeared. This led to the theory of suicide. A reward of $100 was offered for the recovery of the bodies.
