Mrs. M. E. Ryken died at her home, a few miles south of Ackley on September 8th, at the age of 72 years. She has been sick for many years and death came as a result of the long sickness, and from old age. She was born in East Friesland, Germany, in the year 1836, and moved to this country in 1865. She was married to Martin E. Ryken at Foreston, Ill, in 1866 and soon afterwards came to Ackley. Her husband died in the year 1903. The funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical church, Rev. Meintzer officiating. Mrs. Ryken left surviving her, three sons, John, Peter and Everet, who reside here.
