Cold and Starvation.
Charles City Intelligencer:—Last Saturday, Jan. 26, Coroner Knickerbocker was called to Riverton township to hold an inquest over the dead body of an old man, A. Ruetter, which was found in his home on the county line road between Floyd and Bulter{sic} counties. The neighbors had not seen any smoke coming from his chimney since the Sunday preceding, and thinking something was wrong, forced open the door that morning, and found the old man dead. His body was sitting on the edge of the bed, clothed, and in position as if he had just started to get up for something, he was a bachelor, lived alone and was very poor, living entirely upon charity. The verdict of the coroner’s jury was that he came to his death from ”freezing and starvation.”
