FROM FLOYD COUNTY

Heavy Storm – Damage Done Thereby

Special Dispatch to the Dubuque Times
CHARLES CITY, June 24.

A violent storm, lasting six hours, visited this section last evening – wind, rain, hail, thunder and lightning. The rain fell in torrents. Three railroad bridges are reported gone between this place and Calmar, and other damages has been reported to have been done to the Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad. The river at this point was higher than has been known for six years. The water for some distance two feet deep on the railroad track. Lightning struck the smoke stack of Gremmell’s large steam sash and blind factory, un-roofing the building. The stable of Jno. Stalle was struck by lightning, prostrating two horses, one of which is not over the effects yet. A cow in another part of town was killed by the same bolt. The wind blew down the windmills of the M. & St. P. Railroad, and the I. C. R. R. The Methodist tent, used for camp meeting and other purposes, and under which Mrs. Van Cott had recently been holding meetings, was very badly damaged, and probably cannot be repaired. One of the chimneys on the M. E. Church was also blown down. All the chimneys but one of Jos. Clemens wagon factory were blown down. Some of the buildings on the fair grounds were damaged, and two trees struck by lightning.

It is supposed that the west of us the damage was greater than here, but no information has yet been received.
