TERRIBLE TRAGEDY

James Cullen Murders
His Wife and Stepson
at four o'clock
Tuesday Morning

James Cullen, the carpenter and tank builder, murdered his wife and step son Roy Eastman, at four o'clock Tuesday morning at their home on East Clark street. He also attempted to shoot himself but only inflected scalp wounds. Mrs. Cullen was found lying crosswise of the bed with a bullet wound in her body and her son was lying dead at the front door. Mrs. Cullen was also stabbed about the neck in several places. Word was telephoned to Marshal Braend and he went and got Sheriff Schermerhorn. As the two got into a buggy and started to go to Walter Fluent's house to get him, they saw Cullen crossing the bridge in the middle of the road. The Sheriff asked him where he was going and he said, to Dr. Seymour's, and they told him to get in and ride and they took him to the jail where Dr. Seymour dressed his wounds.

Great excitment prevailed all day in the city with some talk of lynching under cover of darkness, but no reports of violenc reached Osage yesterday and feeling had probably abated.
