Ed J. Taylor enlisted in the Thirty-eighth Infantry on August 9, 1862 and was later transferred to Co H of the Thirty-fourth Infantry. Benjamin Whiting served in the same (38th Infantry) as Ed J. Taylor. Benjamin Whiting enlisted on August 11, 1862 and died at Port Hudson, LA on August 9, 1863 according to information recorded in the "1878 History of Fayette County, Iowa".
Eliza M. Taylor, wife of I. A. Taylor, died 25 Dec 1876 at age 70 years, 2 months, 1 day with burial at Elgin Cemetery. Also buried there William M. Taylor (no dates). Two Whiting burials also .. Jacob Jasper, died March 25, 1870, age 17, son of B . and B Whiting and William, no dates, government grave marker. He also served in the 38th Infantry.
