Apparently there were several unrelated MMARTIN families early in Fayette history. Andrew F Martin was probably born in New York about 1813. Some othewr Martins were clearly of German origins and ought not to be confused. A biographical note at the Fayette genweb site is as follows:MRS. A. MARTIN

She was married to Andrew Martin from Franklin Co., N. Y., 1841; he was born in St. Lawrence Co., N. Y., 1812; they have had fifteen children, and twelve living - Sophira, William H., Herbert, Clarissa, Malborn H., Edith, Ella, Wallace A., Edgar H., John C., Annie, Elmer. Mr. Martin died in 1871. She has 181 acres of land valued at $4,000. They came to Iowa and Fayette Co. before it was organized as a county. They had nothing left after purchasing their claim. Good health and a good will soon enabled them to make a home. William H. carries on the farm.

Page 738There are abundant clues in this note and suggest study of 1820- 1840 census may reveal possible parents of Andrew. I did not find him in the 1850 census index available to me but further study is needed to locate him. Also, it is likely that a study of given names may suggest clues to his parents given names among the names of his children.
