A little bit of Dewey information ...
From page 561 of the "1878 History of Fayette County": "the township (Harlan) was organized in 1859. It then had a population of about sixty souls and seventeen legal voters. The first election was held the second Tuesday in October, 1859, at the house of T. J. Dewey." T. J. Dewey was elected as a township trustee at this election.
The 1860 Fayette County Census (Harlan Township) has T. J. Dewey age 57 and wife Eunis age 46 ... children living with them were Franklin age 21, Jasper age 20, Hodson/Addison? age 18, Melinda age 16, Minerva age 14, ....?... (male) age 12, Miranda age 10
and Ira age 8.From cemetery records done by the Fayette County Genealogy Society; Charles I., Ira S. Manerva D. and Maranda J. all died October and November, 1863 and are buried with parents at Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, Iowa. T. J. Dewey died Feb 2, 1890 at age 86 years, 11 months, and 8 days. Eunis O. Dewey, born Jan 26, 1814, died May 17, 1910. Also buried at Maynard, Nellie M. Norton Dewey, wife of Jasper, b. May 2, 1839, d. May 17, 1910.
At Fayette's Grandview Cemetery, Addison Dewey with no dates (Co. D, 4th IA Inf. marker), Electa A. b. June 27, 1842, d. May 19, 1903, wife of A. Dewey.
