I searched for the census 1860, 1865 and 1870 for Rock County, MN. They appear to not exist- For 1860 there is a note: : "no enumeration returns for this county". Keep in mind that Rock was part of Pipestone county until 11 May 1858. Then in March 1864 it was attached to Brown county for "judicial purposes." In July 1866 it detached from Brown and was attached to Martin" for judicial purposes." In March 1870 it was attached to Jackson county . In Mar 1870 Rock formed a county government. In July 1873 it was detached from Jackson and attached to Nobles. I'm not sure what this attachment means but perhaps some of the records are in the county where it was attached. Another idea is to try to find colleges where he could have gotten his religious training - There are several in Southern MN that early. Are there any books about early Methodist ministers? Sorry I couldn't find more! Good luck- Chris
