Gloria (Glory) Ann Wilkinson Nelson, 75, of Spirit Lake, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born on June 29, 1926, in Storm Lake, to John D. and Minnie Doeling Clayton. Glory was the third daughter of seven [children] in the family, which spent many years in Gillet Grove, where their father was a section Foreman for the Milwaukee Railroad.

Glory met Darrel Eugene Wilkinson, of Spirit Lake, in late 1947. The two were married in a simple ceremony at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, on December 31, 1947. They returned to Spirit Lake, where Darrel entered the plumbing business. Glory managed the couple's business, which included the Cottonwood Cottages, until the early 1960's. She also worked for a number of Lakes Region businesses through the later 1970's and the early 1980's.

Darrel passed away to cancer on November 4, 1972. Glory married Larry D. Nelson on July 18, 1973 in Spirit Lake. The couple remained in Spirit Lake, where Glory retired in the mid 1980's. She continued an active life hosting from time to time their granddaughter. Glory was a member and served in several capacities in the local Rebecca Lodge and did volunteer work into the 1970's.

Glory is survived by her husband, Larry Nelson of Spirit Lake; a son, Richard Wilkinson, and his wife, Solveig, of Racine, Wisconsin; a granddaughter, Darrelle Wilkinson; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her brothers, Frank, Wilbur, John and Lloyd; and her sisters, Barbara and Marian.
