Darrel Eugene Wilkinson, the son of Edwin and Minnie Mix Wilkinson, was born March 8, 1921, at Jackson, Minnesota. When he was 8 years old he moved with his family to Spirit Lake, Iowa.
He attended school in Spirit Lake, and entered the United States Navy, and served 4 years during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Clayton, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa on December 31, 1946. To this union one son was born.
They made their home in Spirit Lake, where he operated Speed's Plumbing, and in later years he was a clerk at the Iowa State Liquor Store in Spirit Lake.
"Speed" as he was known to his many friends passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. on November 4, 1972 at the age of 51 years, 7 months, 26 days.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Gloria, one son Richard Eugene of Spirit Lake, one brother Homer of Pico Rivera, Calif., and two sisters Mrs. Paul (Ardith) McLaughlin of Garden Grove, Calif., and Mrs. Fern Snow of Clear Lake, Iowa.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the V.F.W. in Spirit Lake
