Miss GARDNER who was taken prisoner by the Indians at Spirit Lake, Iowa, last March, has been purchased by the friendly Indians, sent out for that purpose, and brought to St. Paul, and delivered up to Gov. S. Medary. A large contribution was made up by the citizens and presented to her. $1,200 was paid to the Indians as remuneration for their services. Over 3,000 were expended by Gov. Medary in securing the release of Miss Gardner and Mrs. Marble. Mrs. Nobles and Mrs. Thatcher, who were taken at the same time, were both brutally murdered.
