Mr. Kermit Eugene Rice, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
Born July 2, 1930, in Kingston, he was the son of John Louis, Sr., and Vera May Vicksell Rice. He married Judy Ann Kerr on July 1, 1968.
Kermit worked as a supervisor over the printing department for National Research Bureau in Burlington. He then worked as a printer and in maintenance at Alaniz & Sons in Mt. Pleasant. After retiring at the age of 67, he went back to work as a mobile home installer, later the head of maintenance for J.C. Penney, and after the closing of that store, at Fareway Grocery, retiring at age 90.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His hobbies included mushrooming, visiting the timber, feeding birds and wildlife, and growing strawberries. Most of all, he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Diana Altimus of Mediapolis, Duane Rice of Elk River, Minn., Robin Nevling of Monmouth, Ill., and Lisa Patrick of Wapello; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kermit David Rice and Mark Rice; one grandson, Andrew; three sisters, Catherine, Evelyn, and Annabelle; and one brother, John Jr.
The funeral service for Mr. Rice will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 18th at Lunning Chapel. Pastors Ryan Cosgrove and Dean Graber will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, where the family will receive friends.
According to his wishes, cremation will be entrusted to Lunning Chapel following the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
