Henrietta Maxine Hillyer, 82, of Middletown, died at 5:45 AM Thursday, May 13, 2021, at the Danville Care Center.
Born October 3, 1938, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Henry Max and Margaret Helen Lemme Pitzer. On July 11, 1967, she married John Atwood Hillyer, Jr. in Ottawa, Illinois. He later died on January 31, 2002.
She was a 1956 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a cashier for Arledge Transportation for 22 years.
She was a member of the Danville First Baptist Church. She loved to read, some of her favorite authors being James Patterson, John Grisham, Danielle Steel, and Mary Higgins Clark. She loved to camp at the 4th pumping station, and was a regular snowbird to Apache Junction, AZ. She enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the birds, and loved all of her pets. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her five children, Kimberly (Brian) Wolbert of Eldridge, IA, Steven (Tara) Hillyer of Middletown, IA, Janice (Bill) Lippert of Burlington, Connie Long of Burlington, Kenneth (Hope) Hillyer of Middletown, IA; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Lola Jean Allsup of Delphos, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Candy Ryan, and one sister, Patricia Rice.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Oncology, and the St Jude Foundation.
