Been Lost a Week.

Louis Krekel Missing That Long From His Home.

His Sons Did Not Notify Police Until Yesterday -- Missing Men Was Nearly Eighty and Feeble -- Thought to Be Demented.

A case of mysterious disappearance having more than one strange feature about it was reported to the police yesterday afternoon.

The home of Louis Krekel is on his farm, in the Spring Creek neighborhood, on the Middle Augusta road. Monday, the 18th inst., as his sons relate at police headquarters, Krekel left his home without a coat. It was then about 5 o'clock in the afternoon.

From that time to the present, the sons declare, they have not seen their father. He is seventy-eight years of age, and they express the fear that he has wandered off in a state of mental aberration.

The meager description given of the missing man is as follows: Five feet six inches tall; dark hair, skull cap; no coat.

His son, Henry Krekel, with whom he lived, has had the home and adjoining farms searched without result. Not the least strange feature of the case is the delay in making known to the police the facts of the disappearance.

The body of Louis Krekel, an old farmer who disappeared a month ago, was found in a well near Burlington with his throat cut. It was thought to be a case of murder.

He Killed His Grandfather.

Burlington (IA), August 3. -- Henry Tonscher, a farmer arrested here, has confessed that he murdered his grandfather, Louis Krekel, last winter, during a family quarrel. Tonscher made a desperate fight for liberty when officers appeared at his house to make the arrest.
