From Commercial and Statistical Review of the City of Burlington, Iowa (1882), Page 138:

P.F. Unterkircher, Livery and Furnishing Undertaker, Nos. 206, 210, 214, and 214 ½ Washington Street. Mr. Unterkircher’s Livery Stable was started in the year 1867 and his Undertaking Ware Rooms established in 1878. Both enterprises have obtained a success that has placed them among the largest of the kind in the Western country. His stables are 60 by 65 feet, three stories in height, well lighted and commodious in every respect. He has 35 horses, 11 carriages, 20 buggies, and 20 sleighs for livery use, and his turnouts in style and finish would satisfy the most fastidious patrons.

His Undertaking Ware Rooms, 20 by 60 feet, three stories, at 214 and 214 ½ Washington Street are supplied with an extensive assortment of Coffins, Caskets and Metallic Cases, Walnut Caskets, Rosewood and Cloth Covered Coffins of every grade, suited to the wants of the rich or humble, at corresponding prices. He furnishes the hearse, carriages and other conveyances for funerals at reasonable rates.

His business with the city and country surrounding is prosperous in the highest degree, requiring the services of seven employees besides himself and his two sons. Mr. Unterkircher is a German by birth and imbued with the spirit of that thorough going people. He has resided in Burlington for twenty years, and is a first-class businessman and public spirited citizen. His sons possess in an eminent degree like characteristics.
