LANDMARK DISAPPEARING
Workmen engaged in the construction of the Hoag Electric Light Plant, are in the course of their task removing one of the real old landmarks of the city. By this is meant the old brick building which for decades stood in solitude just across the road north of the mill property. The building was erected by the late Egbert Hoag, father of the present owners’ of the milling and lightening plant in the year 1867, following the building of the mill in 1865 and the dam in 1866. It was erected as a residence for the first miller to serve in the employ of the late Mr. Hoag and was one of the first brick buildings to be built in the city.
For many years it has been unoccupied and its removal is inevitable result of the march of progress. The brick in its construction, despite their long years of service, are for the most part in good condition and will be used in the brick work of the new plant now under construction.
