Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Thursday, May 24, 2012
Deceased Name: Douglas J. Wernke: Body in quarry identified
DYERSVILLE, Iowa - The Dubuque County Sheriff's Department has released the identity of the body found Friday in a Dyersville quarry. The Iowa Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased as Douglas J. Wernke, 30, of Dyersville. The investigation determined that Wernke was the sole occupant of a vehicle that drove off a bluff into a rock quarry at the end of Nature Trail Road, which is just south of Dyersville city limits. Wernke was ejected on impact and the vehicle destroyed by fire/explosion, according to the sheriff's department. Wernke had been reported as a missing person to the Dyersville Police Department on May 13. The incident remains under investigation; foul play is not suspected. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, according to his obituary. Telegraph Herald
