Olympia woman celebrates 100 years
Mrs. Doris Cowles Millett of Olympia will celebrate her 100th birthday with a private party with her family.
Mrs. Millett was born June 29, 1903, to Eddy Smith Cowles and Flora Beatrice Helm Cowles, in Manchester, Iowa. She came to Olympia in 1998 from San Francisco.
She married Clifford R. Millett on July 3, 1925, in Chicago. Mrs. Millett attended Manchester High School, Manchester, Iowa, and graduated from the Christian Science Benevolent Association, San Francisco, in 1965 as a Christian Science nurse.
Mrs. Millett worked as a clerk/typist for the city and county of San Francisco, the board of education, retirement system, C.S. Ardenwood as a Christian Science nurse, and also worked as a private nurse.
She has three children, Marilynn Abel of Olympia, Sandra Tarzan of Olympia and Edward Millett of San Francisco. She has six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Millett is a member of the San Francisco Scribes Writers Club the Martin Van Buren Fan Club, San Francisco the Ninth Church of Christ, Scientist, San Francisco the Mother Church, Boston, Mass. and STARS at the Senior Center in Olympia.
She is related to Martin Van Buren, has Mayflower ancestry and enjoys walking, writing her autobiography, crossword puzzles, reading, classical music, Longfellow's poetry and art.
