MR. and MRS. ANTHONY MASSEY are rejoicing
over the arrival of a little
boy at their place.

DR. FLEMMING and JOHN NEWLIN were Garden
Grove visitors Monday.

JOHN BEAVERS closed a very successful term
of school Saturday at the
RIDDLE School House, and gave an ice cream
supper in the evening. We
understand the proceeds from the supper
are to be used in the purchase
of a new dictionary for the school and
amounted to nearly ten dollars.

A child belonging to ELMER BAY of Wayne
County, recently had the
misfortune to break his arm. The fracture
was reduced by Dr. Flemming
and the boy is getting along nicely.

MRS. ANN LANE of Garden Grove is visiting
with her sons, TOM and TRAV
LANE and other friends and relatives.

GEORGE STRATTON is home again.

MR. and MRS. W.C. BULL and BRAZIL WILSON
were Woodland callers Monday
evening.

G.J. HUTCHINSON, T. GOODWIN and J.W.
HARTMAN were Leon visitors Monday.

MISSES NELLIE GROGAN, EVA DYE and ALICE
FLYNN closed successful terms of
school last Friday in Districts No. 4, 5
and 8. One of MISS FLYNN's
pupils, MISS CORNELIA PEARSON, completed
the branches taught in the
common schools and receives her diploma.

MR. FINCH of Misouri was at this place one
day last week.

TALBOT HARTMAN has been suffering with a
badly poisoned face and arms.

The citizens of Woodland were considerably
startled Monday night of last
week by the cry of fire. On investigation
fire was found to be at the
store building formerly owned by J.W.
HARTMAN. The fire was
extinguished, however, by the combined
efforts of those present but not
until considerable damage had been done.
In all probability the entire
building with others near would have been
burned had it not been for the
tin roofing which prevented such a rapid
spread of the flames.
