VAN WERT NEWS:

Mr. Editor: As there has been a great
deal said in your paper about our
little town, I thought I would write you a
few lines. We have a nice
country and a good community. The young
men are a little wild, which we
do not approve of, but they are not as bad
as they have been pictured.

The young folks had quite an enjoyable
time at MR. GEMMILL's on last
Friday. They had a carpet rag sewing. We
think they might have invited
us to supper at least. We believe we
could have done as well as any
there.

We noticed GEORGE MURRY, CURTIS and WILL
LEONARD, Van Wert boys who have
been out in Page County at work, or our
streets the past few days. They
report things lively and crops looking
well out there.

HORACE PICKEREL spent a few days the past
week with friends in this
city. He and his brother, JAMES MCCANN,
are in the drug business at
Beaconsfield.

R.O. JAMOS, the agent for the narrow gauge
railroad at this place,
returned from a four weeks' visit among
friends in Indiana. LEON
THOMPSON, who was here attending to the
office in his place, has gone to
St. Charles.

MR. SANFORD, the supply man of the H. &
S., has returned and looks a
great deal better than when he left. He
has been in Humeston.

The ditching train on the D.M., O.&S.R.R.
stays at Van Wert and the men
board at the Van Wert House. There are
about twenty of them.

Why does LEE WATKINS, CHARLEY ROGERS and
LINCOLN ROBERTS go out west so
much. There must be some sort of an
attraction that draws them, for
they go out every Sunday.

Now is the time to hear the music of the
sickle as it levels the golden
grain. We noticed JOHN WALKER, with his
binder, in his oats near town
the past few days. He says he has a
little boy shut up in the machine
who does the binding. He used to think he
was a good binder, but he has
to "gum her up", the little boy beats his
record.

The rain Monday stopped the machines for a
short time, but they are
running again.

CHARLEY ROGERS bought the barber shop out
at this place and is running
it. Good luck to you, CHARLEY, you have
our best wishes.
