Earnest Lee Walker
Earnest Lee Walker was born near Gorin, Missouri, on July 4, 1897, and passed away January 15, 1973, at the Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri.
He was the son of James Henry and Mary Bell Walker and was from a family of twelve children.
On June 23, 1918, he was united in marriage to Jessie Beatrice Gardner. To this union were born four children: Opal Denora, Charles Henry, Genola Jean and Mary Elaine.
He joined the Christian faith early in life and for the last several years, was a member of the Gorin Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Gorin Senior Citizens.
Better known as Ernie, he was a farmer until his retirement in 1959. Those acquainted with him will recall his love for the sport of horse racing. He was a one-time corn husking champion of Scotland County.
On December 11, 1960, he was married to Bertha Norton of Gorin.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha; three daughters, Opal Lawrence of Renten, Washington, Jean Isaasen of Moline, Illinois, Mrs. Mary Kious, and son-in-law, Robert Kious, of Lansing, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ronald Jay Lawrence, Marilyn Kay Heydebreck, Kirk Allen, Kris Martin and Karen Jean Kious; five great-grandchildren: Ronald Jay Lawrence, Jr., Susan and Nita Kay Lawrence, Sherri and Wendy Heydebreck; four brothers, Earl Richard, Wayne and Ray, and one sister, Maud McGrew. His step-children, Dale, Merle, Wallace, Donald and Ronnie Norton and Carol Davison; twenty-one step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Jessie; son, Charles; brothers, Pearl, Taylor, Dow, Hugh, and Henry; and one sister, Bessie Mathes.
Ernie was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Gorin Bapist Church at 1:30 p.m., January 17, with the Rev. Harold Shelton of Luray, officiating. Body bearers were Lee, Floyd, and Keith Walker, Henry and Raymond Mathes, and Ronald Lawrence. Burial was in the Memphis cemetery.
