Jack A. Wood, 80, went home to be with the Lord October 8, 2011. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, at Maranatha Baptist Church in Grimes with burial following at East Linn Cemetery near Redfield.
Jack was born May 3, 1931 in Adel to Russell and Josephine (Williamson) Wood. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He married Myra Scott February 4, 1955, in Princeton, MO. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 147. Jack was a very faithful member of the Maranatha Baptist Church and visited East Mesa Baptist Church during winter. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fellowship with his church family, various camping groups and a host of friends here in Iowa and in Arizona. He enjoyed scroll sawing, woodcarving and playing cribbage and horseshoes. Jack never met a stranger in his life.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Myra; children Marlea (Wayne) DePenning, Terry Wood, Jack Wood, Tina (Ronnie) Allen, Gail (Steve) Bauman, Rochelle (Sixto) Pavon; 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; brothers Leonard Wood and Robert Spring; and sisters Betty Procnow and Mary Lou Davis. Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his son Larry, his parents, brother Bill and sister Zelda Berry.
