Snider, John Lawrence “Larry” - 1940-2011

John L. "Larry" Snider, 71, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Granger Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granger. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church located at 1910 Locust Street in Granger, of which he was a member. Burial will take place at Lincoln Cemetery, rural Granger.
Larry was born the son of John Gerald Snider and Elzada Catherine (Palmer) Snider on January 20, 1940 in Madrid, Iowa. He was a graduate of Granger High School and had attended Drake University in Des Moines. Larry had formerly owned and operated his own construction business prior to his employment with Schroder Masonry in Des Moines, where in 2009, he retired after 35 years. Larry was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved spending time fishing, hunting, barbequing and following sports, including girl's softball. An avid race fan, Larry enjoyed driving stock cars in his earlier years.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his two sons, Clint Snider and Chris Snider both of Des Moines; four daughters, Tonya Snider and Traci (Charles) Schreckenbach both of Des Moines, Angie (Shad) Kirton of Grimes and Sheila Snider of Granger; one sister, Delores (Charles) Fuson of Granger; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of many extended family members and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Jean; parents; granddaughter, Mariah Snider; and a very special friend and loyal companion, his beloved basset hound dog, "Daisy Mae".
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 25, at the church in Granger.
