Lake Waynoka, OhFritz J. Garloff died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his home near Cincinnati, Ohio.
Fritz Garloff was born in Ueterlande, Germany on March 15, 1930 to Friedrich and Lina (Brakhahn) Garloff. Fritz came to the United States in 1950 as one of the first German exchange students after World War II. During the exchange he met his future wife, Giesela Desch, from Laubach, Germany. Fritz moved to Canada in 1952, and the two married in 1954 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Fritz moved with Giesela to Dallas Center, Iowa and began working at Hy-Line International where he ultimately became the Director of International Marketing. Fritz and Giesela became U.S. citizens in 1959.
In a career that brought him to over a hundred countries, Fritz most enjoyed coming home to his family in Dallas Center, Iowa where he lived for over 40 years. He retired to Lake Waynoka, a private, gated community near Cincinnati, Ohio where he enjoyed boating, gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his son, Chris in 1987, Fritz is survived by Giesela, his loving wife of 58 years; two brothers, Dr. Hans (Erika) Garloff of Elmshorn, Germany and Horst Garloff of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Ursula Müller of Bremerhaven, Germany and Claudine Garloff of Bremen, Germany; his children, Carol (Karl) Ball of Cincinnati, OH, Claudia (Mark) Peterson of Collierville, TN, and Court (Deanna) Garloff of Urbana, IA; and ten grandchildren, Garth, Katrina, Connor and Griffin Ball; Christopher (fiancée, Stephanie Shank), Andrew and Allison Peterson; and Eva, Daniel and Christian Garloff.
