A scandalous elopement has just occurred at Adel. Thomas M. Rakestraw came to think more of his wife’s younger sister than of his wife, which led to a separation. As soon as the wife went to her father’s house, her sister left it, and meeting her brother-in-law at the depot, both started for Council Bluffs. Discovering their departure, the father telegraphed ahead and had the couple arrested and brought back. Rakestraw is a shoemaker, a member of the Christian church, and has always been accounted respectful until this sad infatuation.
