Kiron...Memorial services were held for Christine Benson at the Kiron Evangelical Free Church July 31, 1970 with Rev. Reuben Carlson officiating. A ladies trio, Mrs. Myrtle Anderson, Mrs. Russell Gustafson and Mrs. LeRoy Scheldorf offered two hymns with Mrs. Richard Gustafson as organist. Internment was made at the Kiron cemetery with Leonard and Burdette Benson, John and Rodger Larson, the four grandsons as active bearers with Stuart Benson as an honorary bearer.
Christine Benson was born Feb, 15, 1887 at Lowden, Iowa to the late Emma and Peter Hintz. In infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran faith. At an early age she came to Crawford county with her parents and five brothers and four sisters. Her early years were spent in the Ricketts community where she received her education in the rural schools and was confirmed at the Hanover Church.
She came to Kiron in 1904 and was employed until the time of her marriage to Arthur E. Benson on October 9, 1908. They had three children, Kermit, Lloyd and Lenora, (Mrs. Howard Larson). After the death of her husband in 1946 she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Larson until April 1969, then due to failing health, she became a resident of Colonial Manor at Odebolt, Iowa where she died July 19, 1970. Her survivors include her three children, Kermit, Lloyd and Lenora, all of Kiron, two daughter-in-law, Jessie and Marian Benson, one son-in-law Howard Larson, one granddaughter, five grandsons.
