Funeral services for C. Esther Copp, 89, were held in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wheatland, Aug. 31 with the Rev. Harold Koenig officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger and Howard Beuthien, Vernon Hansen, William Cubbage Sr., Melvin Wiebel and Raldo Riedesel. Wilma Riedesel was organist and Deane Boom was the vocalist.
Miss Copp died at the DeWitt Community hospital Aug. 28.
The daughter of William and Doris Witt Copp, she was born in Wheatland July 1, 1896. She graduated from Wheatland high school and received her BA in education from Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, in 1929.
She taught for 41 years. She was in Reinbeck, Waterloo and Montana before coming to McKinley junior high school where she taught English for 29 years. She retired in 1959.
She was a member of the Homerian Literary society and a president of Sigma Tau Delta at what is now the University of Northern Iowa. She contributed articles to "Purple Pen" and "The Rectangle," official quarterly of Sigma Tau Delta. She was a member of the Euterpean Glee club and, since 1914, she was a member of the National Geographic Society.
Miss Copp was a past president of the Cedar Rapids Bird club and was a made an honorary member of the Cedar Rapids Audubon Society in 1961. She was also a member of the Iowa Ornithologist's Union and the National Audubon Society. She was also a member of the Koinonia Choral society of Wheatland for many years.
She is survived by a sister, Hilda Snyder, Pequot Lakes, Minn, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 8 sisters and a brother.
