This is the will as posted in the Clinton Semi-Weekly Age newspaper May 7, 1901

ARTEMUS LAMB WILL
HE LEAVES ALL OF HIS PROPERTY TO HIS HEIRS
Will Dated March 1, 1898 -- His Wife, Two Sons, and C. F. Alden are Named Executors.

The will of the late Artemus Lamb has been probated in the district court of Clinton county and is as follows:
I, Artemus Lamb, of the city of Clinton in Clinton county in the State of Iowa, do hereby make, publish and declare this my last will and testament intending thereby to dispose of all property which I may own at the time of my decease.
ITEM I.
I wish all my just debts and funeral expenses paid.
ITEM II.
I devise and give to my wife, Henrietta S. Lamb, for and during the term of her natural life my homestead property in the city of Clinton, in the county of Clinton, known and described as lots numbered one (1), two (2) and three (3) in block numbered twenty-nine (29) as said lots are laid down and described on the map of the town (now city) of Clinton, recorded in the office of the recorder of Clinton county, Iowa, and subject to the said life estate of my wife therein and from and after her death I devise and give the whole of my said homestead property above described unto my daughter Clara A. Lamb, her heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM III.
I also give to my said wife in case she survives me, all my household furniture, beds, bedding, tableware, silverware, pictures, ornaments, jewelry, watches, printed books and other household effects and furnishing which I may own at the time of my death, also all horses, buggies, carriages, harnesses and all the effects in my stables which I may possess, to have and to hold the same during her natural life, and upon her death, all said property that may then remain and be undisposed of by my said wife, I give to my said daughter, Clara A. Lamb, her heirs and assigns and in case of my said wife not surviving me, then I give all my said property mentioned in this item to my said daughter Clara A. Lamb absolutely.
ITEM IV.
I give and bequeath to my wife Henrietta S. Lamb, my sons, Garrett E. Lamb and James Dwight Lamb and Charles F. Alden, all of Clinton, Iowa, the sum of then thousand ($10,000) dollars for my grandsons Artumus Lamb Gates and John Gates sons of my daughter Emma R. Lamb Gates, to be held and managed and invested and from time to time reinvested by said Henrietta S. Lamb, Garrett E. Lamb, James Dwight Lamb and Charles F. Alden, Trustees or their successors, of my grandsons Artemus Lamb Gates and John Gates and in such good and productive property as will produce, if possible, a sure and regular income. Such income may, if necessary, be used by said Trustees to defray the expenses of giving my said Grandson a good education, and if said Trustees deem it advisable, they may use all or any portions of such income to pay the necessary living expenses of my said Grandsons. In any event said Trustees are to be the sole judges as to the necessity or advisability of using such income or any part thereof for the purposes herein (illegible) aforesaid it shall be invested by said trustees and become a part of said fund. When my said grandsons shall attain the age of twenty-one (21) years said trustees shall pay to each of them the sum of five thousand dollars ($5,000) from such fund and such portion of the income as has not been use as aforesaid, and I expressly exempt each of said trustees or their successors in trust, from giving any bond for the faithful execution of said trust. In case of the death, refusal or inability to act of any or either of said persons so appointed by me as trustee, then I direct that the other and surviving and competent and willing ones of said four persons so appointed act and be such trustees.
ITEM V.
I also further give and bequeath unto my wife, Henrietta S. Lamb, the one third part of all the rest and residue of my estate real, personal or mixed, of which I shall be entitled at the time of my death, to have to hold the same to her the said Henrietta S. Lamb, her heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM VI.
All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate and property of every kind, real, personal or mixed and where ever situated of which I shall die possessed of or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my death, I devise to my children Emma R. Lamb Gates, wife of Marvin J. Gates, Garrett E. Lamb, James Dwight Lamb and Clara A. Lamb, in equal parts share and share alike.
ITEM VII.
The provisions made in this will for my said wife are expressly made in lieu and place of dower or other right in or share of my property which she might be entitled to by statute and in bar of all claims or rights in my estate provided by statute.
ITEM VIII.
I hereby appoint my wife, Henrietta S. Lamb, my sons Garrett E. Lamb and James Dwight Lamb and Charles F. Alden, all of Clinton, Iowa, executors of this will and I exempt each of the from the necessity of giving bonds for the execution of such trust and incase of the death, refusal or inability to act of any or either of said persons so appointed by me as executors of this will, then I direct that the other and surviving and competent and willing ones of said four persons so appointed act and be the executors or executor as the case may be, of this will. And I further fully authorize and empower my said executors to sell and dispose of any property real or personal, that I may have at the time of my death, except the property mentioned in and given to my wife and daughter Clara A. Lamb by items two and three of this will, and to transfer and conveyance thereof, or any part thereof, or any rights therein, and to distribute the proceeds thereof to my devises in this will as above provided.

The above and foregoing instrument consisting of six pages including this one, was by the testator Artemus Lamb in our presence declared to be his last will and testament, and then and there in our presence by signed and sealed as such, who then and there at the request of said testator and in his presence and in the presence of each other affixed our signature to the same as witnesses at Clinton, Iowa, the day of March, A. D., 1898.
