Born in Waukon, Iowa, on June 24, 1910. Attended Waukon public schools. Received B.A. and J.D. degrees from the State University of Iowa. Married Isabel Chafer of Clinton in 1934. Father of one daughter, Sibyl. Engaged in practice of law in Waukon since 1934. Allamakee County Attorney for eight years. Member of the Lutheran church, the Order of the Coif, Kiwanis Club and Junior Chamber of Commerce. Served as Fourth District Chairman of the Young Republican League of Iowa and as State Chairman 1941-44. Elected to the Senate in 1944.
