Clinton Wire Cloth Company In New Home
Source: The Clinton Advertiser, Clinton Iowa, September 3rd, 1920, Page 6The Clinton Wire Cloth company which is the outgrowth of the American Wire Fabrics company in this city has practically completed their removal to the new manufacturing location in the north end of Lyons, taking over the plant which formerly housed the Brinkerhoff Stamp Vending Works.
The American Wire Fabrics company was organized a number of years ago and in 1912 the name of the organization which had a factory in Clinton was changed to the American Wire Cloth Company, and operated as a branch with other factories located in the east. At a recent date the local plant was consolidated with an eastern plant at Blue Island Illinois and Clinton ceased to be the home of this concern, however D. S. Seaman and M. L. Christian were responsible for the development of a new concern, started about two weeks ago as the Clinton Wire Cloth Company and the location was selected in Lyons of the better facilities and factory location which was already there.
A force of men are now working at the Lyons plant constructing looms to be used by the new company and their taking over the Lyons location means the abandonment of the factory site in Manufacturers' addition. The old plant of the American Wire Cloth company ceased to exist here two weeks ago upon the merger with the Blue Island plant.
The company offices will be removed to Lyons as soon as facilities are provided there and when the looms and other machinery necessary to carry on the business here a much larger force will be added to those now working at the plant.
The nature of the business to be conducted by the Clinton Wire Cloth company will be the manufacture of common screen wire and also special wire such as is used in corn poppers, strainers, etc. The new company is an entirely independent concern, not affiliated with any of the American Wire Cloth companies or branches being made up solely as a Clinton manufacturing firm. The removal of the offices to Lyons will probably be effected by the close of September.
