Osceola, IowaSusan Brummett Houston was born February 24, 1842, in Henry county, Missouri. On the 22nd day of June, 1859, she was married to Franklin Houston in the same county of her birth.
Her husband preceded her in death on August 11, 1886, leaving his wife and nine children to mourn their loss.
In 1889, the oldest daughter, Laura Houston Fouche, was called to the better land.The eight children living are Winfield of Osceola, Iowa; Mrs. Hattie Archer of St. Charles, Ia.; George Dillion of Montana; William of Osceola, Iowa; Harry and T.R. of St. Charles; Mrs. Audrey Pendarvis of Des Moines; and Mrs. Kate Buchanan of St. Charles; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
On March 4, 1903 she moved to St. Charles, where she had lived until her death, May 12, 1933.
“Mother” who has been with us these 91 years has always had the doors of her home opened wide. On each Christmas for the 73 years of her married life, she provided for a bountiful turkey dinner. During her entire life she planned for the future.
