Funeral services for Sarah Ann Lewis, 90 year old Clarke County woman, were held at the Webster Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. F. McCallon. Burial was made in the Murray cemetery.

Mrs. Lewis died Wednesday at a local nursing home following an illness of a few weeks.

Sarah Ann Lewis, daughter of Wm. and Harriet Poil was born in West Kent, England, January 26, 1850, and passed away in Osceola, Sept. 4, 1940 at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 8 days.

She was the seventh child of a family of 10 children, all having preceded her in death, except one brother, Edward J. Poil of this county.

At the age of 2½ years, she came with her parents to the United States in a sailing vessel, requiring seven weeks to make the trip, landing in New York state where they lived one year.

They then moved to Wisconsin, later to Illinois and then to Iowa where she has lived the rest of her life, ecept six years spent in Omaha, Nebr.

On Jan. 20, 1870, she was married to James Kelley. To this union was born six children. Thomas, Michael and Charles, deceased; and those living; one daughter, Mrs. Jane Stansbury of Sioux Falls, So. Dakota, who on account of illness was not permitted to attend the funeral services. Two sons present were Wm. J. of Ottumwa, Iowa and John J. of Osceola. Her husband, Mr. Kelley passed away June 21, 1887.

In the year 1888 she united with the Murray Methodist church, never removing her membership from that place.

In 1900 she was again united to Ransom Lewis of Omaha, Nebr.

Mr. Lewis passed away Dec. 27, 1931. Since his death she has made her home with her son, John J. in Osceola.

Though being 90 years of age, she remained mentally alert to an unusual degree, being able to sew and read without the aid of glasses.

One of her greatest enjoyments was to listen to the radio sermons of the Rev. Brown of Omaha, who dedicated a birthday song in her memory in January of this year.

Although she had not been in her usual good health the last few years, Mrs. Lewis was not confined to her bed until the past four weeks.

She leaves to mourn her passing except the above mentioned, 4 grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
