Marilyn Ruth Kirkpatrick passed away December 23, 2020 at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines after a month-long battle with COVID. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later time to be determined.

Marilyn was born March 17, 1946 in Clarke County, Iowa to Harold and Virginia DeLong. She attended Clarke Community Schools. She graduated from Clarke High School in 1964. On December 31, 1972 she was united in marriage to Ronnie Kirkpatrick. To this union, Marilyn and Ronnie had 4 children; Daniel Eugene Kirkpatrick, Douglas Edward Kirkpatrick, Darin Elvis Kirkpatrick and Dennis Erin Kirkpatrick.

Marilyn worked most of her life in the healthcare field. Early on as a doctor's assistance at the Clarke Medical Clinic and later as an insurance coder for Des Moines Eye Surgeons, Surgical Affiliates, and other medical offices in the Des Moines area.

Later in life Marilyn worked at the New Virginia Library. She was the clerk for the Virginia Township Trustees. She also was a sexton at the New Virginia Cemetery and an operator for New Virginia Waste Water along with Ronnie.

Marilyn volunteered and was involved in many organizations some of which were; Melody Makers, Jesus' Right Hand, Hiz Kids after school program, Madison Warren Ecumenical Association, and Warren County Democratic Central Committee. Marilyn was a member of the New Virginia Christian Church. She loved church activities and spending time with her church family.

Marilyn also loved to cook. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and always looked forward to family get-togethers. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's activities and would make every effort to attend them all. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the Osceola Swimming Pool. She liked playing computer games and watching sports and game shows.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Ronnie, of New Virginia; son, Dan (Kim) Kirkpatrick and family of New Virginia; son, Doug (Laura) Kirkpatrick and family of Indianola; son, Darin(fiancé Holly Thompson) Kirkpatrick and family of New Virginia; son, Dennis (Brenda) Kirkpatrick and family of Auburn, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her mother, Virginia Erickson of New Virginia; brother, David (Cheryl) DeLong of Gladstone, Missouri; her aunt, Ruth Audlehelm of Osceola; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Harold "Cy" DeLong, and sister, Linda Akers.
