Lena Fern Beymer
August 20, 1916 to November 14, 2003Lena Fern Beymer, 87, of Nevada died Friday, Nov. 14, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
She was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Liberty Township, Clarke County, to George Washington and Blanche Elvira (Harlan) O'Neall. She was a 1934 graduate of Osceola High School. On July 21, 1935, she married Richard M. Beymer in Bethany, Mo. To this union, one daughter and one son were born. They farmed in Clarke and Story Counties until 1954. She worked in retail at the Little Dress Shop and Dillin's Department Store in Nevada, working at Dillin's until the store closed. She then worked at Bourns in Ames for 15 years. She has been retired for 17 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening and reading.
Survivors include a son Nile M. (and Betty) Beymer, and a sister, Irma Curley, all of Nevada.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard on June 24, 1997; and a daughter, Betty J. Apland.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Chet Ryan Mortuary with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
