2002Jerry Lee Smith
Jerry Lee Smith, son of Howard K. and Ellen O. Chumbley Smith, was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Osceola, and died Dec. 18, 2002, at his home in Plainfield, Ill. He was 60.
He graduated from Osceola High School in 1960 and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He lived in Chicago from 1962 until 1999. He retired last July from Randy’s Market in Orland Park, ILL. after 40 years in the grocery business.
He was a member of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Church in Plainfield. He was an avid golfer and collector of Charles Dickens Village Homes and Buildings.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merle, Melvin, Ike, Darwin; and sisters Eunice DeVore and Ramona Claypool.
He is survived his wife, Ginny Smith; sons, Jerry Smith and his wife, Christine; Daniel Smith and his wife Laura, and a daughter, Peggy Smith; grandchildren, Victoria and Sabrina Smith, all of Plainfield; sisters, Fern Van Daele of Twin Lakes, Wis., Shirley Schroeder of St. Louis, Mo., Roxanne Schultz of Yuma, Ariz. and Sandra Perry of Lacona; brothers, Clifford Smith of Westmont, ILL, Ward Smith of Duncomb.
Funeral services were Dec. 21 at Overman-Jones Funeral Home in Plainfield with interment at Plainfield Township Cemetery.
