Funeral Services for Alfred Turk Were Held Tues.; Well Known Dairyman Here

Osceola, Iowa, Thursday, July 16, 1936

Funeral services for Alfred H. (Henry) Turk were held from the Webster Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. F. C. McCallon, pastor of the Church of Christ, assisted by Rev. W. M. Brooks of the M. E. Church. Interment followed in Maple Hill.

Alfred H., the oldest son of Edward and Ann Turk, was born August 13, 1862, at Rosencrans, Illinois, and passed away at his home in Osceola, Monday morning, July 13, at the age of 73 years and 11 months.

When 16 years of age he moved with his parents to Kansas where he resided until 1886, when he came to Osceola.

On December 31, 1884, he was married to Olive Maria Sibley at Russell, Kansas. To this union were born eight children: Daphna who died at the age of four years; Claude H, Edinburg, Ind; Orval S., who died July 30, 1910; Mrs. Lafe (Lena) Gibson of Humeston; Mrs. W. E. (Eula) Short, Des Moines; Mrs. E. R. (Vera) Zike, Fairfield; Reuben A., Morning Sun; Cletha R. of Kalispell, Montana.

Mrs. Turk died in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on September 20, 1907, where the family had moved two years previously because of her health. After her death the family again returned to Osceola.

August 31, 1916, he was united in marriage to Miss May Bevans. To this union were born two daughters, Mary Margaret and Marjorie Maxine, both at home. For the past thirteen years Mr. Turk has been engaged in the dairy business in Osceola. About two years ago he was critically injured when attacked by one of the animals, and from this injury he never fully recovered. He became ill last November and had been bedfast for the past three months. He was kind and paitent throughout his suffering.

He united with the church at an early age and was a member of the Church of Christ at the time of his passing. He served this church as custodian for fifteen years.

He was possessed with a high sense of honor and took the Christian attitude toward his home and community, although quiet and undemonstrative in his Christianity. He was a lover of flowers and music and loved to hear his two young daughters play and sing.

Those left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife and children, his aged father; three brothers, Frank and Leslie of Osceola and Bert of Kansas City; six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
