Walter Kent White, son of Walter Edward White and Mildred Anna (Chase) White was born, January 13, 1925 in Shelby, Nebraska. He passed from this life Saturday, January 2, 2009 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 83 years of age.

Kent grew up in Shelby, Nebraska. He graduated from Shelby High School. He entered the United States Navy on May 31, 1944 proudly serving on the USS Tennessee. He was there when they raised the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima. While home on leave he was united in marriage to Leah Grace Harrison. After serving in the Navy he returned to his wife and they lived in Nebraska before moving to a farm near Woodburn, Iowa in 1947. This union was blessed with four children. Kent was very proud of the fact that his four children all lived within a few miles of him.

Kent was a longtime farmer and also worked at the Solar Aircraft factory; the U.S.D.A. as a state compliance supervisor covering several counties; the print shop at the Federal Building in Des Moines; and was a Clarke County Board Supervisor. He served as a Liberty township trustee for many years. He was a member of Unity Lodge #212 A.F. & A.M.; Order of the Eastern Star; Herndon-Oehlert Post #157 American Legion; N.F.O. (National Farmers Organization); Farmers Union and the Democratic Party.

Kent enjoyed time with his family. He enjoyed working with the Democratic Bingo and the Woodburn Legion Bingo. He was affiliated with the Bethel chapel Church. He and Grace enjoyed traveling to different states, often traveling off the beaten path.

Those relatives who preceded Kent in death were his parents; wife Grace; infant brother Keith.

Left to cherish his memory are, daughter, Connie Marker and husband, Richard of Osceola; son, Ed White and wife, Janice of Osceola; daughter, Cindy Henry and husband, Denny of Woodburn; son, Dan White and wife, Kim of Osceola; brother, Roland White of Eustis, Florida; brother, Dean White and wife Doris of Shelby, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren: Lorie Ann Cobb of Osceola; Lucy Jane Fenton of Osceola; Ryan Edward White of Osceola; Angela Marie (Carl) Ellis of Pleasantville; Donald Kent (Carolyn) White of Osceola; Leah Darlene (Keegan) Reynolds of Osceola; Samantha Jean (Roland) Edgerton of Osceola; Grant Walker Henry and fiancé Ashley Johnson of Osceola; Melissa Kay (Robbie) Donohoe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Thomas Kent (Carrie) White of Osceola; and Matthew Raymond White of Osceola; 14 great grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Miranda, Lane, Valerie, Gracie, Chloe, Millie, Riley, Dallas, Caleb, Maisey, Madison and Easton, other relatives and a host of friends.
