Died at New Hampton.
The death of Mrs. John Konzen occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Smith in this city Tuesday noon, Jan. 16th, following a few days illness from a cold, but which did not confine her to her bed.
The deceased, Miss Catherine Pitts was born in Germany, May 25, 1828. She came to this country with two brothers and settled in Dubuque county and later moved to the city of Dubuqe{sic} where she met John Konzen, and was married. From there they went to Lawler, where they lived for twenty years, then moving to a farm in Jacksonville Twp. Mr. Konzen died 32 years ago. For the past 28 years she has made New Hampton her home.
Mrs. Konzen is the mother of eight children two of whom preceded their mother to the grave. Those living are Mrs. W. H. Ferrie, Cresco; Mrs. Clara Sturms, Sioux City; Mrs. Casper Leichtman of Jacksonville Twp; J. C. Konzen of Monteviedo,{sic} Minn., Mrs. W. J. Smith of this city and P. H Konzen of Stillwater, Minn. She also leaves 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Her funeral was held from St. Mary’s Catholic church with burial in St. Joseph’s cemetery, Rev. B. H. Forkenbrock had charge of the services.
It is difficult to pay a fitting tribute to the memory of so noble and aged of the pioneer mothers. “God touched him with His finger, and he slept,” the poet wrote, so may we say of Mrs. Konzen—“God touched her with His finger and she slept,” but not until a beautiful life life {sic} was lived, a noble example of patient fidelity to to{sic} truth and faith were given. Now that she sleeps sweet memory finds that her virtues melt into music.
Sympathy is extended to those who mourn the death of a good mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.—New Hamp{t}on Tribune.CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to thank our many friends for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved mother, and we also wish to thank them for the many and beautiful floral offerings.
HER CHILDREN.
