Donald Joe Martinsen, 43, of 430 East Cedar, Cherokee died Friday, November 10, 2000, in Marian Health Center, Sioux City, Iowa. Services will be held Tuesday, November 14 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cherokee.
Don was born February 11, 1957, in Newcastle, Nebraska, to Max and Mary Lou (Richards) Martinsen. The family moved to Alta in 1961 and then to Aurelia in 1966. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1975. He then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg for 1 year. He has been employed at Continental Deli since 1976. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. He was also a life member of the North American Hunting Club, Cherokee County Life member of P.O.W. and M.I.A. Support Group and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling and being with his family.
He is survived by his parents of Cherokee; 3 sisters: Renee and her husband Lloyd Buddenhagen of Aurelia, Barbara LeValley of Plano, Texas and Connie Tarbill of Austin, Texas; one nephew, Eric Buddenhagen, and two nieces Jessica and Alicia Buddenhagen and his aunts and uncles.
Don was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth in 1962. Greenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
