I'm not related to this family but thought I might be able to help you. I find Abraham Williams in the 1850 census for Harrison Co., Ohio, Cadiz Twp., along with several other Williams families, enumerated 11 August 1850:
Dwelling 643.
Abraham Williams, 41, miller, b. PA
Matilda Williams, 37, wife, b. PA
George Williams, 18, b. PA
Sarah Williams, 15, b. PA
Elizabeth Williams, 13, b. PA
Ann Williams, 8, b. PA
Morgan Williams, 6, b. PA
Mary Williams, 4, b. OH
Martha Williams, 1, b. OHAs you mention, he is then in the 1860 census for Hancock Co., IA, living next to Edward Thorp and Sarah (Williams) Thorp and their children, Flora and Captolia (spelled in census).
Looking backwards from 1860 to find Edward Thorp and see who his parents are, I find this census record in Ohio, and from the age and place of birth it appears to be your Edward Thorp.
1850 Aurelius Township, Washington Co., OH, 27 August 1850.
Charles Thorp, 43, merchant, b. NY
Mary Thorp, 36, b. PA
Edward Thorp, 18, b. VA (he says in the 1860 Iowa census record that he was born in VA)
Mary J. Moler, 16, b. OH
John Thorp, 10, b. OH
Craig Thorp, 9, b. OH
Mariah Thorp, 7, b. OH
Elizabeth Thorp, 6, b. OH
Hannah Thorp, 4, b. OHThis looks like your Edward Thorp, son of Charles and Mary, but it will take more research to be certain.
I searched for Edw. Thorp in the 1880 census and think I find him and two of his daughter in Idaho; however, the census taker enumerated Capitola as his wife and Rosa as his step-daughter:
1880 Idaho Territory, Pleasant Valley, Oneida:
Thorpe, Edw. A., 50, husband, stock raiser, b. OH, parents both born OH
Thorpe, Cappia, 21, wife, keeping house, b. OH
Thorpe, Rosa, 13, step-daughter, b. OHNot sure, but this looks like Edward too.
I hope this is a little help for you.
