John Welch family

JOHN WELCH, AGNES HANNIGAN

Researching ancestors and descendants of John Welch and Agnes Hannigan (aka Ann). John was born about 1823 in Ireland and Agnes/Ann was born in Canada about 1832. They were married in Canada and moved to Iowa about 1853.

They appear in the 1860 & 1870 census for New Oregon Township, Howard County and had 6 children: Catherine b. 1851 in Canada, John H. b. 1854, Daniel Edger b. 1859, William J. b. 1861, Edward Eugene b. 16 Aug 1863 and Mary Jane b August 1869.

John died 26 Sep 1870. Agnes remarried (Thomas Murtha) and died 30 Sep 1884. They are buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Cresco along with their daughter, Catherine Rostratter and family. Their son, Edward, was my great grandfather.
