Dixie L. Yezek, 74, of Plymouth, died Tuesday (April 10, 2018) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday (April 16, 2018) at Epiphany Parish – Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth, where military honors will be provided.

A visitation will be held Sunday afternoon (April 15, 2018) from 2 pm until 4 pm at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will recite the Rosary at 4 pm, followed by a Scriptural Wake service.

Dixie Lee Sear was born on February 27, 1944 in Dubuque, the daughter of Fred and Savena “Sally” (Fleckenstein) Sear. She attended and graduated from Dubuque Senior High. Following high school Dixie enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps where she proudly served as a Nurse in France in the 1960’s before returning to the United States to work in El Paso, TX.

Eventually Dixie moved to Mason City to work at Mercy Medical Center, it was there that she met Eugene Yezek. They would be united in marriage in October of 1968 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City and would be blessed with four children and nearly 50 years of marriage.

Dixie was a devoted wife and mother. She spent countless hours tending to her children and helping on the family farm. She was the foundation of her family and loved unconditionally. Every available moment was spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Throughout the years she lived a life of service to the church. Oftentimes she could be found at St. Michael’s, teaching CCD or playing the organ for services. She served on the Pastoral Council at Holy Family and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas as well as many circles throughout the years. She loved day trips to West Bend to visit the Grotto of the Redemption.

In her free time Dixie enjoyed playing cards and dice, a love that she received from her mother and passed on to her own daughter and granddaughters. She was especially fond of Yahtzee and 500. In earlier years she loved to bowl and play tennis.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, Eugene, Plymouth; children, Steve Yezek, Grafton, Johnny Yezek, Plymouth, Cindi (Steve) Snow, Swaledale; and Daniel (Michelle) Yezek, Kensett; grandchildren; Katie, Ryan, Taylor, Nicholas, Thomas, Jeffrey, Sarah, Eve, and Benjamin; brother, Fred Sear, Dubuque; and her dear friends, Pat Doore and Denise Taylor.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Dixie cherished the friendships she made while at Good Shepherd, her family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers for the time and care they provided to Dixie. She loved living at Good Shepherd and the community there.
