Funeral services for Arvo Uuskallio, 89, West Branch, were held July 11, 1989 at the Barker Funeral Home, with burial in the Hickory Grove cemetery at Scattergood school.

Mr. Uuskallio died July 7 at the Crestview Care Center following an extended illness.

The son of Hendrik and Mary Toikkander, he was born Feb. 4, 1900 in Finland. He came to the United States when he was 27 and married Georgetta Chamness Nov. 23, 1930 in West Branch.

Mr. Uuskallio farmed in Cedar county and specialized in raising tomatoes and hybrid tomato plants.

He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Florence Uuskallio, Iowa City; Mrs. Mabel Rosedale, Orosi, Calif. and Mrs. Pauline Rosedale, Dinuba, Calif.; a son, Foster, Hartland, Wisc.; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
